Ed had followed his son Gerry into Motorsport via the Porsche 924 championship, achieving his racing licence at the age of 65 in 1995. The idea of TFMS was to promote the foundries main product, Castings, through the medium of Motorsport.
Gerry went on to the win 924 crown in 1996 and moved up to Caterham racing for the 97 season in a 1.4 K-Series, Ed staying with the Porsches. During the 97 season Gerry by chance meet seasoned Caterham engineer Dave Ketteridge, who prepped Taylor's car for the last half of the year. With a new Caterham announced for 1998, the 1.6 Roadsport TFMS placed an order with Caterham Cars for a new chassis for Gerry so Ed could campaign the 1.4k in t he same races. Over the winter of 97/98 the new kit arrived, but who would build it? Ed and Gerry decided to offer a full time position to Dave Ketteridge to run both Cars in 98. After two races Gerry was 3rd overall, the current leader, Dave Clark approached the Taylors to ask if there was space for his car in the team. They took him under DK's wing and on he went to win the Championship with Gerry second and TFMS taking the team award.
